Updating the Void of Course for LunaBar (unofficial)

as far as I can find and tell, Lunabar seems to exist in abandonware territory.

it’s great little program for windows;; placing the moon position in the taskbar.

there has been one issue though, it’s had an error about the Moon Void of Course being out of date.

looking at the file, this might’ve been the case since 2010…

(I looked for an updated version, I found one guy talking about updating it using astrolog to calculate it. seems to be lost in the process, I don’t know.)

any ways, I decided to try it myself. with the help of some deepseek guidance.

the script took a few rounds of error back & forth to make functional, mostly for working with Moira & Moira-Astro to run the calculations accurately.

I figured I’d future proof it so the retro PC interactive display museum computers of 2216’s earth can still have a functional Lunabar.

the test run for one year took a few minutes to calculate, so I’m realising it’s gonna take a hot minute to run this thing, as it is now as I type here.

~{8 hours later}~

Alright, so it turns out 2010 to 2222 is too large of a file for lunabar to handle, so i’m trying again in 5-year increments, starting at 2026.

if it accepts that, i’ll prepare folders of future decades to include in the .zip I share here, so you’ll be set for a long time.

{it worked}

So I ran it onward from 2031 to 2112 overnight. (i was feeling that symmetry more than 2222.)

I kept the 1st line as +300 like the original files had, I believe it sets it to east coast EST time. leaving it for compatibility’s sake.  it fails to start lunabar at all when that’s empty .

Here’s a .zip of the updated files! LunaBar_VOC_Future_Years

overwrite the original files in your LunaBar installation folder (  C:\Program Files (x86)\Lunabar  )

you can open them in Notepad like text files to see it if you want to.

LunaBar itself can be found as Freeware here:

here’s the actual python script that generated these files as well, if you’re curious. updateVOC scripts
